3 Easy Hikes with Great Views Near Kerhonkson & New Paltz

If you’re looking for an easy hike with big payoffs, we have you covered. These are great for people who don’t like to hike or think they can’t hike. They are also perfect for people who love hiking but are short on time.

Stony Kill Falls

7 minutes from Kin House
Free.

What I’d dub the best hike for people who don’t hike or think they can’t. It’s just about a mile out and back, easy with some steep steps and one area with some metal bars. The payoff and beauty is tremendous. We were there early this morning and had the place to ourselves. The falls were full from the major recent rain, which made the sounds of the falls incredibly loud and extra wonderful.

There are a lot of rock steps (which can get slippery in the rain) and a small section of about 5 metal bars at one point.

Lake Minnewaska Loop

7 minutes from Kin House
$10 Entrance

This 2-mile hike takes you around the lake. The terrain is easy and the lake views and waterfall at the start make this a popular hike for all levels. It’s a great choice for people with kids of any age. Avoid peak times on this trail, as it gets very crowded.

Compass Rock Loop

9 minutes from Kin House
$10 Entrance

Compass Rock loop is a short and sweet rewarding 2-mile hike complete with a stretch next to the river and this glorious peak view. Great for beginners and an easy walk. There’s only a short stretch uphill (to get the views of course!) but it’s very manageable. Enter at the Peters Kill Entrance / lot. Bonus, this entrance is normally less crowded and there are nice bathrooms and a number of picnic tables around the trailhead.
